Showers and Gales Across the UK for the Bank Holiday Weekend

Heavy showers, thunder and gusts of 40 to 50mph are forecast as festivals take place across the country.

Heavy rain and showers are expected across parts of the UK on every day of this weekend, which is a bank holiday for many people. Strong winds may also cause problems for travellers and holidaymakers in the south.

It will not be a complete washout, because most areas will still see some drier and sunnier moments. Parts of north and west Scotland may see very little rain at all.

On Saturday, heavy showers will sweep across England and Wales, and some of them could be torrential and thundery. There has already been a lot of rain this week, so parts of the Midlands and northern England could see flash flooding. A large part of Scotland and Northern Ireland will stay dry.

Sunday may start dry and bright, but more heavy and thundery showers will arrive from the west in the afternoon. On Monday there will be showers again, but they should not be as strong.

The strongest winds are expected on Saturday in southern counties of England and Wales and in the Channel Islands, with gusts of 40 to 50mph on some hills and coasts. Temperatures will be around 15 to 22 Celsius, a little below average for the time of year.
