British Families Travel to Nepal After Floods Kill at Least 475

Thirty-three British nationals are on Nepal's list of missing tourists, including a girl of 13 and a boy of 14.

Families of missing British people have flown to Nepal to look for their relatives. The floods in Nepal and Tibet have killed at least 475 people, and several hundred people are missing, including 537 tourists.

On Friday, the authorities in Nepal published a list of the names of all the known missing tourists. Thirty-three of them are British nationals. A 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy are on the list.

The flood hit early on Wednesday in Rasuwa, just north of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. At first people thought an earthquake caused it, but the US Geological Survey said a landslide made the seismic energy.

Several of the missing people were on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, a holy Hindu place. One tour company said it has not been able to contact 12 British people who were in the region when the floods struck. Four of its Nepali guides are also missing.

The UK has offered £5m to help the Nepalese government. Rescue workers are still searching, but there are warnings of more flooding.
