Raheem Sterling Charged After Lamborghini Crash On The M3
The 31-year-old will appear in court in Basingstoke on 15 September.
The footballer Raheem Sterling will appear in court next month because the police have charged him with dangerous driving.
Sterling, who is 31 and lives in Berkshire, crashed his Lamborghini into barriers on the M3 in Hampshire on the morning of Thursday 28 May. No other cars were involved and nobody was hurt.
The police also charged him with possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and with failing to provide a specimen. He was arrested after the crash but then released on bail. In May, a source close to Sterling told BBC Sport there was "no proof" of drugs in his system.
Sterling will appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.
The former England winger has no club at the moment. He joined the Dutch club Feyenoord in February after he left Chelsea, but he left Feyenoord at the end of last season. He played 82 times for England between 2012 and 2022.

Raheem Sterling To Appear In Court Over M3 Crash On 15 September
The former England winger has been charged with dangerous driving after crashing his Lamborghini in May.
Raheem Sterling will appear in court next month to face charges of dangerous driving and possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, after crashing his car into motorway barriers in May.
The former England winger crashed his Lamborghini into barriers on the M3 in Hampshire on the morning of Thursday 28 May. The 31-year-old was arrested and then released on bail while police made further enquiries.
A spokesman for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen." The spokesman added that no other vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened on the M3 southbound close to the Minley Interchange, and that no injuries were reported. Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September. Police had suspected him of "driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs", but that has not been included in the charges.
In May a source close to Sterling told BBC Sport there was "no proof" of drugs in his system. The source said the player had faced "an extremely tough couple of years" and had been made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about".
Sterling has been without a club since leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season. He joined the Dutch side in February on a short-term contract after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent. Chelsea paid £47.5m to sign him from Manchester City in 2022, where he had won four Premier League titles in seven years. He earned 82 England caps between 2012 and 2022.
